How to Trim and Assemble a Multi-Page Poster
Once you have printed the tiles from the poster tiler, a careful assembly makes the seams almost invisible.
You will need
- A metal ruler and a craft knife or paper trimmer (scissors work for small posters)
- Clear tape, a glue stick or double-sided tape
- A large flat surface
Steps
- Print at 100% scale. In the print dialog choose "Actual size" and turn off "Fit to page", or the tiles won't line up.
- Lay the pages out in order (row 1 left to right, then row 2) and check you have every page.
- Trim along the dashed cut marks. On every sheet except the first column, a dashed line sits one overlap in from the left. On every sheet except the first row, a dashed line sits one overlap down from the top. Cut off the strip outside those lines, including the white printer margin. Leave the right and bottom edges untrimmed so the next sheet can overlap them.
- Align the cut edge on the neighbour's untrimmed overlap so the picture continues across the join. The label at the bottom of each sheet gives the row and column. Row 1 is the top.
- Tape from the back, or glue along the overlap, and press flat. Join rows first, then join the rows to each other.
- Trim the outer white border of the finished poster.
Tips
- Heavier paper (for example 32 lb / 120 gsm) wrinkles less with glue.
- An overlap of about 5–10 mm gives room for small misalignments. Set it in the tiler or in the pages calculator.
- For a wall, spray-mount the joined poster onto foam board or card for a flat finish.
- Use "best" print quality and the same printer for all pages to avoid colour shifts.
Planning the size first? Check standard poster sizes and whether your image has enough pixels.
